All buildings need strong foundations and although they are built from the ground up, they don’t need to be designed that way. It was this approach that led to the inspiration behind the Halcyon. With panoramic views and a coastal setting, the Halcyon began its journey upstairs.
Designed around sweeping ocean views the concept was to deliver a sanctuary – somewhere private to unwind and relax. The result was an upper floor dedicated to a luxuriously appointed master bedroom with private balcony, a hotel-inspired ensuite and a fitted dressing room which opens onto a second larger balcony. The design showcases spectacular ocean views from every room on the upper floor, giving the home a sense of calm and tranquillity.
While the upper floor was designed around luxury, the ground floor is designed around functionality and versatility. The fully equipped kitchen and scullery work seamlessly together to conceal the large laundry and walk in linen around the corner. The spacious free-form living provides separation between the major and minor bedrooms whilst inviting the outdoor spaces in with the northerly glass wall. Take a step outside and into the alfresco and solar courtyard areas which allow you to take full advantage of all-year-round weather conditions.
The orientation should not be overlooked as it plays a major part in the overall layout and ensures the Halcyon is warm in winter and cool in summer. The free-form living with its north-facing full-height glass wall optimises passive solar gain and is protected from harsh summer heat through the cantilevered upper floor.
Sweeping views and a coastal setting formed the foundation the Halcyon was built on - it shows that sometimes inspiration is right in front of us. All we need to do is sit back and take notice every once in a while.
